Compressed air can represent up to 15% of total site energy costs.
On average 25-30% of the compressed air you generate will supply leaks throughout your site distribution system.
At 7 bar and 8p/kWh the annual kW use and cost, if the comrpessors are not switched off is:
HOLE DIAMETER | POWER WASTED | COST PER YEAR (8000 HOURS) | CO2 LOSS |
0.4mm (pin prick) | 800kW |
₹ 4800 |
352kg |
1.6mm (pin head) | 8,000kW |
₹ 48000 |
3520kg |
3.00mm (match head) | 28,000kW |
₹ 168000 |
12,320kg |
REDUCE AIR COMPRESSOR CONSUMPTION
You can help reduce air consumption by reducing the biggest air leaks on your supply lines and production machines, resulting in major cost savings and reduction in CO2 emissions. Viraj Technologiess can carry out surveys to identify these leaks very easily during normal working hours without interrupting production time.
Every leak we detect is tagged with a highly visible coloured secure label and given a unique reference number. This is then recorded and graded for priority. At the completion of the survey a report is compiled that estimates the total site leakage losses, energy cost of leaks, identification of priority leaks to fix, estiamted cost of repairs and bill of materials to fix leaks, if required.
Once leaks are fixed, we recommend that survey be done again to review successes and find any outstanding leaks until the situation is under control. Many larger sites have been able to switch off compressors by fixing leaks in this way.
